Let's make a JEM with a RG 550 LTD

hi everyone, like a lot of people here, i dream about getting a real JEM and... for so many reasons it's difficult for most of us. so... let's get a good RG made in japan et let see what happen when you're a beginner like me.

this one : RG 550 LTD '97.
the pros : low pro edge and a great wizard neck like my RG 7420.
the cons : i don't really like the shark inlay but this guitar was a good opportunity for me.

to be continued...

Re: Let's make a JEM with a RG 550 LTD

let's go forward with patience and... patience.

yes, i see your face my friends, if the monkey grip is almost perfect, the lion's claw is not the same as the original and jem's fans know why... but we all agree : "it's not a jem ! hi hi hi." no ok, it was easier and at taht time i didn't what finish i would like to get to the body and i thinking about keeping the black one.

manta.

to be continued with the unexpect sanding paper finishing ( i know my english is not perfect, i'm sorry for this )

Re: Let's make a JEM with a RG 550 LTD

hi again friends,

so there was the problem and i wanted your "jem fan opinion"
i would like to have and create a finishing near from the jem 90th anniversary and when i sanded the body with the only thing that i get : papers and my hands ! i finally get this.

so, i think more about something between the Universe in the "for the love of god" video and the Jem BSB.

Your opinion ?

let see with the head stock. i would like to keep the original logo and not to put a decal. and i m pretty satisfy of the result.

oh and i forgot something from the 21 to the 24th fret

so, now...

i'm waiting your advice and opinion. cause i like it like that at the end and it's pretty unique i think.

1st thing I'd recommend is reading tutorial on how to convert a RG into a Jem:

http://www.projectguitar.com/tut/tutorial2.htm

The links are down just a bit from the top page.

Should help.

Project guitar needs to get on with the times and put big pictures instead of the little dinky ones they always put on their tutorials.

I love watching anything that involves wood working on a guitar!

That is a great idea with the lions claw! Don't know why I've never seen anything like it before.

Good job!

Re: Let's make a JEM with a RG 550 LTD

hi, thank you everyone for your congratulations,

there stilll some people who don't like when people like me work on a RG, but in france we say " opinions and colors are in mother nature " (something like that ) . so, for andrewsfury : " i like jem, i like rg, ibanez and steve vai, and i really wanted a similar jem but may be i will think the same as you later but not now hi hi hi.

thanks for yout opinions, i would like advice in order to know if i should paint or color (teinted) the wood before clearcoat or not ? why not with red oil ? i would looks like the FTLOG universe ?

thanks for your answers !

Good job!
thank you, i would have made the original lions claw cavity if it could have been possible to dig it in an original rg body but we all know that it is impossible because of the original rg measurements. but even if mine is not like the original steve vai one, i like it

i tried a brillant clearcoat, it was a real disaster so i had to sand and sand the body again and again with n°80 and n°400 granula sandpaper to get this damn ugly finish off, but i like the end result.

my final problem is that i don't know what to put on the wood to protect it cause i would like to keep this natural wood color. any suggestions are welcome ?

check this out friends :
