Line jack repair

Hi,

Can anyone tell me how to tighten the instrument cable connection within a Jem line jack socket please? The socket itself isn't moving within the body, but the instrument cable is easily disturbed when plugged in causing signal failure.

I've taken the line jack out but it appears to be an enclosed barrel .. any tips ?

Cheers,
Tony

If you've already got it out, why not just replace it with a new one? I don't think the barrel-type jacks are easily serviced.

If the jack has 3 pins and only 2 are being used, then an excellent performance enhancement is to ground the third pin. The pin that is not being used is in contact with the ring of the plug for use either as a stereo jack, or its connected to a battery negative so when you plug the guitar in your active system turns on. That way you don't waste battery life when you're not plugged in. But with a normal plug it is just making contact with the shaft of the 1/4" plug. Grounding it puts two ground contact points in your jack and quiets the plug's movements significantly. If you have three pins this could be a near permanent fix.

I can replace it, but its a question of sourcing a replacement in time for the gig I was going to use it for
