Lo Pro Bridge Stud Lock Screws?

was just reading the string height adjustment of the manual for my RG with a Lo Pro tremelo.
http://www.ibanez.com/support/manual..._w-locking.pdf

It says:

In the case of Edge and Lo-Pro Edge tremolos, the
Pivot studs(B) are locked internally by the Stud lock
screws(C). Always loosen the Stud lock screws (C)
before tightening the Pivot studs(B). After adjusting the
string height, tighten the Stud lock screws(C).

I've never tightened the stud lock screws. I just raise and lower my bridge without tightening them. Is there a point in tightening them? Am losing anything (sustain, stability, etc.) by leaving the stud lock screws untightened?

Re: Lo Pro Bridge Stud Lock Screws?

It simply provides further stability. It secures the post to the stud by locking the threads together. Theres no reason not to do it, really.

Re: Lo Pro Bridge Stud Lock Screws?

String pitch stability? or just stability of the parts staying together?

Re: Lo Pro Bridge Stud Lock Screws?

Well, both, those two go hand in hand. The set screw keeps the post firmly anchored within the stud/insert, preventing any slight movement which could affect your pitch return.

Basically, yes, it improves tuning/pitch stabilty.
