Even more permanent and thorough solution (just had to do this with my RG1527) - take the arm out, and in the spot mentioned above, where it narrows like the tip of a 1/4" jack, use something like fine emery cloth and then some steel wool to polish the channel smooth. A lot of these bars have a lot of machining artifacts left which translate to creaking and such when rotated against the little spring at the bottom of the arm holding which retains the bar.
... a bit of lube on that won't hurt, either - I tend to use pencil graphite.
