Lo-Pro Edge Trem - intonation problems

Hi all yes me again

Ok, i have a lo-pro edge where by the high e, b, g strings intonate fine with adjustment and are pretty much the same positions where ive seen pics on the web (i know strings and lots of other factors can change this and not to go by pics but just laying it all out there so u can visualise) ..

now my problem starts with D, A and definately E .. from D to E the note at the 24th fret gets sharper to the extent that the LOW E string fretted at 24th fret is F on the tuner.. ive tried moving the saddle all the way back (as in away from the neck) and doesnt seem to be helping much.. Ive changed the string to a different brand etc.. but no go

I also notice that when u fret it .. it makes a w w w w w sound (lol yeah ok im not good with sound effects but if u sound the letter w and say it a lot .. thats what it sounds like) .. like its vibrating.. much more noticable on the 24th fret but even sometimes when i hit a harmonic say at 5th frett u can hear it .. so i dunno where the issue is .. if its at the nut? or back at the trem .. and y the damm thing is sharp by a whole note at the 24th fret!!! .. the posts seem ok and eveything is level .. maybe the neck is bolted on too close (you know how u can screw down a neck with slight adjustment) i dunno grasping at straws .. ive sanded the saddles where the strings sit as there were some grooves and a bit of rust .. so they are smooth.. but i dunno whats going on .. tempted to thro it out and buy a new one .. BUT i like to know what the prob is so i can fix it on my other gtrs too if i come across it.

any suggstions?

The only way that makes sense is if you're using very large gauge strings

Re: Lo-Pro Edge Trem - intonation problems

sorry should of mentioned im using 9-42s so not large at all.

AANJ, RG550. neck is straight. ummm i dunno what information might be usefull.

Yeah i know it doesnt make sense .. i dont understand why.

ohh wait .. i DID take the locking nut off an RG770 neck (old squareheel 91 model) spare neck i had and put it on the RG550 (AANJ, 93 model) as the rg 550 locking nut had a broken umm cant decribe it .. string guide? there was no spacer prong to separate high e and b strings on the fretboard side of the nut..

it bolted straight in so i assumed it was the same... could that be the prob? ..maybe i should swap it again and just see if its different..

Nut makes no difference. If it was just the E I'd say change the string, I get bum strings all the time. But all the wounds? Sure your tuner is calibrated?

yeah i changed the string twice now.

and im sure the tuner is fine.. when i plug my other RG in and check its intonation its relatively perfect at 24th frett...

Re: Lo-Pro Edge Trem - intonation problems

sorry getting used to this ..

it appears to be just the wound strings that this is happening to.. D, A, E having a similar "way out inotonation issue" BUT low E being the biggest prob a whole note sharp

gotta love the internet.. not even a minute of posting i have someone helping.. where would we (ok I ) be today without it!

Re: Lo-Pro Edge Trem - intonation problems

oooo insightful.. i had to read that at least 3 times heheh

i dont think they are i will lower them anyway but interesting perspective .. magnetic pull .. never ever woulda thought.

my trem is level but i tighted the springs underneath a little more and then had to detune a little to get standard tuning.. and that appears to have helped a lot .. it seemed the E at 24th fret was closer to spot on .. played a little and then checked a few more times .. a little inconsistent .. is that normal .. as in sometimes a little more sharp that other times .. maybe thats cause of the frets? or fretting at such a small frett on 24th ??

does that make sense .. or am i going totally insane here.. ive been up all nite taking strings on and off and taking trem off putting things back together .. omg ripping my hair out .. sometimes a little discouraging ..
