Lo-Pro7 setup on RG7620

Hi everyone. Ever since I had my guitar re-set up a few years ago for 10s, it's never seemed quite right. I played my friends JPM model guitar and was amazed at how much easier and smoother the trem moved.

I'm having a really hard time getting the andgle to be right -- how many springs should I be using with 10-46+59 (D'addario strings)?

I tried the block on side of trem only allowing downward movement (per floydupgrades.com making it look easy) then I tried the method described here of blocking the other side...so I could get it set up right. Neither method produced the correct result. I also have 4 springs in right now :-( (When I tried it the FR way, I ended up with too little andle, with the Jemsite way, too much angle.)

I also wish I had a reference picture of how far in the screws are....I'll post up some pics tonight when I get back home.

You can't just look at someone else's springs and tighten them to the same point, it won't work.

it is not ibanez specific, but it should get you close.

Wow, thanks, that's REALLY helpful. I'll let you know if I still end up taking it to a pro :-/

Even setup properly the trem will always be stiffer with a set of 10s than with a set of 9s

7 string trems are freakin stiff by nature. THeres more tension all around.

Yeah, that's definitely true about both the 10s and the 7 string comments. The 6 string was set up for 10s too. I started setting it up this morning at the correct angle. Need to check the intonation next. Then I'll re-float the trem, and hopefully it'll be good. Then I'll finally be happy.....

An update:

Back to 3 springs - 3 NEW springs. The old springs were just not cutting it, and that was half the problem. The angle seems much better, might be slightly off, but not too bad. I'm probably going to have a pro go over it some time, but for now it stays in pretty good (not perfect, but not off by much) tune, and that's fine by me. It's a lot better then before. I'll take a pic of the bridge sometime to show how it is.
