Locking Stud Mod for OFR? Rich...?

I've got a Jackson DK1 on the way, but was wondering if Rich's Locking Stud Mod for the Edge Pro would work on an OFR also...

Re: Locking Stud Mod for OFR? Rich...?

I haven't double checked, but I believe the post bushing diameter on the high end ibanez guitars is 11mm, while the OFRs I've seen are either 9mm or 10mm. So I doubt it would be a direct swap.

You would have to replace the inserts, and the Ibanez are larger than the OFR.

On new builds with OFR, I use the Ibanez studs, but I have not retrofitted any.

Ok, so just to clarify...

The Ibanez Edge/Lo-Pro Studs are a direct replacement for the OFR studs, without any mods? Need to be sure before I order them

Re-read Ayrton's post. It seems quite clear that edge low pro studs are not a direct replacement, they need a larger hole!

Actually it wasn't clear, since he also said, "On new builds with OFR, I use the Ibanez studs, but I have not retrofitted any."

Which is why I wanted to clarify!

Re: Locking Stud Mod for OFR? Rich...?

The part about the studs having a different diameter is the key. The new builds part makes perfect sense. When he drills for his trem, he can drill any diameter

It's really impossible to say if they're direct, with there being so much variety in the OFR market. Check the diameter of your studs!!!!!! Pull them and measure with calipers, or just estimate with a ruler. Warmoth lists their OFR studs at 3/8", and stewmac lists their schaller replacement studs at 5/16". Neither of these is the 11mm that ibanez studs need. Most likely not direct, so enlarge the holes and hope for the best, or stick with floyd studs

Warmoth (scroll to floyd bridge route details):

floyd rose:

Clear enough? None of those OFRs are 11mm

Re: Locking Stud Mod for OFR? Rich...?

The first part of my post clearly reads the Ibanez studs are larger...

Here is the OFR with an Ibanez and a Kahler.
