Loose arm holder *update* and grinding arm

So last week I followed rich's instructions on removing the trem and tightening the holder.

This week its loose again and there is some play in the bar between pull ups and bend downs.

Im re-reading the instructions, as I was a bit scared of deforming the holder and ruining the spring as mentioned.

By the wording grabbing the END of the holder, is that the spring end or the nut end?

Re: Loose arm holder

hmm, still having trouble.

I can turn the nut and the holder about half a turn, but they both spin together. Should I not care about scratch marks on the tip of the holder (im assuming as close to where the spring end is as possible) when using pliers?

I cant make the nut spin seperately from the holder.

Re: Loose arm holder

get a 10MM deep socket, I just got one at Lowes this weekend for $3, and a large flat head screwdriver, with strings on the guitar, etc, just remove the cavity plate and take the bar out, hold the opening down with the screwdriver and insert the deep socket over the arm holder and tighten the nut against the plate...voila!

Re: Loose arm holder

well, it didnt last.

I tightened as much as I could, I really didn't want to break anything.

It was great for a few hours. I made a thread not too long ago about the arm making noises as it spun, and grease was suggested. It isnt making the same noise, but inserting and removing the arm makes a sort of grinding noise.

looking down into the arm holder, I can definitely see a ring and an area that is discoloured from the grinding.

Is my arm to blame? Or is the Holder ruined?

Is it deformed, stopping me from tightening AND loosening it?

Hi, my 2 cents would be to put 3 washers and then tighten the nut, it's worked for me like magic. 8 months since I decided to do this and it's still as tight as I tightened it.

Re: Loose arm holder

Hi,

Thanks, but I still have the issue that I can't even get the nut off in the first place to be able to get a washer in there.

Use the method described above, apply some WD-40 to the holder threads between the nut. You have to remove the bottom screw and you hold the end of the holder with a pliers, I personally use a large blade screw driver to hold the arm holder disregardind the plier method and tighten the nut with an appropriate 10mm wrench.

Good luck, regards
