Low Profile INFS3 Middle pickup on RG370DX ?

Hello guys..

I have a question.. Can I make the INFS3 go deeper into the body ?

I don't use it much at position 3. Mostly on 2 and 4 for some cleans and jazz parts, but when I go to hard strumming parts at the humbucker (Position 5). I do hit it a lot which is an obstacle for me sometimes.

I have removed the screws and tried to push the pickup towards the body but it seems it doesn't want to go further down. The distance between it and the strings is 5mm

Is there a way or I will need to buy a new single coil with less height (seems dumb for such a problem, but I am tired of hitting it too much)

Thank you

I have the same pickup in the middle position in my RG350ex. The distance between strings and pickup is 5 mm just like you, and I don't have any problems. Let me ask you: how long have you been using a guitar with a middle pickup?? I had the same problem (hitting it accidentally when playing), but it was a matter of getting used to that pickup configuration. And by the way, the place where I pick is between the neck and middle pickup so I don't have a pickup under my pick when playing, maybe this could help you.

I got used to it too. I have the guitar for 2 years, but when I partially palm mute, I always put my palm in a place between the tremolo and the bridge pickup so i accidentally hit it. That is the only situation i hit the middle pickup

For my regular playing, I am always picking in the same place like you between the neck humbucker pickup and the middle single coil pickup

Other than that everything is cool

Thanks for your reply

Re: Low Profile INFS3 Middle pickup on RG370DX ?

First, I would compare the height of the pickup to some replacements to see if it really is taller(maybe all the replacements are the same height). You could remove the pickup(if you don't need it) or pull it out and route the hole deeper by a little(be careful though as you don't want to go thru into the spring cavity). By removing all the electronics and covering the body with a smooth layer of blue painter's tape, its easy to deepen the hole by using a router with a template bit. This bit has a bearing on the top that follows the sides of the original route. Some careful measuring to avoid going thru, a little black paint and you might get the pickup down another few mm's.
