lowest action without buzz

lesh say i juz got my s470dxqm. yeah didnt touch anything, juz simply by adjusting the action. the lowest action that i can go totally without any buzz is about 2.3mm (distance between 22th fret and string)? and how low is consider low? is 2.3mm consider high?

Re: lowest action without buzz

measure it at the 12th fret, so I can compare it to my set ups.

Thanks,

Re: lowest action without buzz

2mm is very high at the 12th fret. are you measuring from the top of the fret to the string, or from the fretboard to the string?

are you just eyeballing it or actually measuring it? .5mm is a big difference!

Re: lowest action without buzz

you can always use picks. i have a few 1.00, 1.35, and some .88 ones. go to any automotive store and get some feeler gauges.

Re: lowest action without buzz

I would go with this:

1.0mm Very Low

1.5 to 2.0mm Low

2.0 to 3.0mm Medium

3.0mm+ High

This is going to depend a lot on how hard you pick, and how hard you fret. Since you just got this guitar, and have both problems with stringing(going by your other post) and buzzing, I would take it to a good guitar tech and have it set-up for the string guage and brand you want to use at least once, just to get a starting point..

is that measured on the 12th fret? thx alot! i tried setting around 1.0mm i find that when i go bendings, it sounds short, so i decided to raise it to around 2. and yeah its all great now! but one thing i find my s470dxqm neck very broad. its much broader than my other guitars guess i think to find some time to get use to it

Re: lowest action without buzz

I have found in the past with my guitar that buzzing can occur because of the nut being too low, try everything to get it right, never settle for less than the best! Good luck and I hope all goes well.

Should it be measured from bottom of the string to the fret or to the fretboard?

Generally speaking, 2mm at the 12th fret isn't that high. Granted, it's not extremely low, but it's not what many would call very high.

A good, low action would be around 1.3-1.5mm at the 12th (which would roughly equate to around 1.8-2.0mm at the last fret).
