luthier / guitar making websites - looking for info on woods

Hi im thinking of having a custom seven (or maybe eight) string guitar made. However i have many questions regarding wood type, neck type, neck construction, chambering, pickups etc etc andd how they effect the overall tone of the instrument.

With this in mind i was wondering if anyone could point me in the direction of any luthier forums and website. I have found a few but not many.

thanks

David

Don't know many sites who discuss different woods for guitars, I got some information on warmoth.com.
Also, mimf.com is also a very interesting website. (the musical instrument makers forum).
And off course, jemsite forum has some members who knows alot of guitar wood.

A very very interesting website is the following:
http://users.skynet.be/bs981341
this website shows you step by step how to build an Ibanez-like 7 string (27 inch scale). Start from scratch

Anyway, keep us informed and good luck with your upcoming project.

Cheers,
Joten

You might be able to find some info about chambered bodies at Frets

If not then they have info on just about everything else.

More info on chambers:-

Quote:
Several makers produce solidbody guitars with hollowed-out tone chambers, which magnify the body's acoustic volume and resonance. Chambered guitars, such as the Charvel Surfcasters, and certain 70s Fender Telecasters, have increased warmth and bottom end response, and develop their full sustain potential at a lower volume than a regular solibody guitar. If you are looking for a warm live sound at a moderate volume levels, try this type of instrument.
Some decent info on body wood properties too.

See here:-

Scroll down to "Body"
