Mandolin tuning help

Can someone please explain how to tune a Mandolin?

I think it is E A D G

But what about the secondary strings???

Mandolins are tuned in fifths, rather than fourths like guitars. My brother explained to me that you can essentially play chord shapes backwards on a mandolin... same as the bottom four strings of a guitar, only backwards.

I think the tuning is G D A E.

Secondary strings are in unison. Darren's right about the tuning.

They're tuned the same as a violin E-A-D-G
