Re: Maple fretboard vs Rosewood
I hate rosewood.
I like the feel of maple, i don't know why it just feels solid.
Although ebony will always be my favourite
My 2 main guitars both have
ebony boards
and i really love the smooth feel.

I don't hate rosewood,
but I do love maple,
Still, ebony is my favourite.
I think the open graines of rosewood slow you down and hinder bending, maple is much more closed, ebony is about the same but much harder, which will influence tone (for better or worse, very subjective) and neck stability (better with ebony).
The fact that Ibanez has stopped using ebony for the Jem underlines the rarity, same for the maple.

Re: Maple fretboard vs Rosewood
To me, the feel of ebony is smoother than maple. And I think part of the reason why Ibanez changed to rosewood on the 7VWH is because that's what EVO has. But I guess most of you guys knew that anyway.

Re: Maple fretboard vs Rosewood
Ebony is my favorite, Maple is a close second, Rosewood is soso for me. It feels stringy-grainy during vibrato for me. I dont mind nicer pieces of rosewood with a tight grain tho.

Re: Maple fretboard vs Rosewood
i had a rosewood 570 before and now have a maple 550. i'm definitely digging the maple more. i had an 04 jem before the 550 and have no regrets selling it. maple rules!
