Material Finish question

For a material finish, is it possible to just sand off the clear and apply the material over the finish or do you have to go down to bare wood?

You can do what you wish to do, but I recommend going all the way down ;-)

I wouldn't know of any adhesive that will hold the material onto the body if you just sanded the clear. If you go that route be sure to post what you used successfully so the rest of us will know

I've got two pieces of material that I've always fancied on a guitar.

One is a piece of Burburry Tartan (or plaid you maybe call it)

The other is from a Dexter Wong shirt, it has a collage of black & white hollywood film stars (monroe, liz taylor, loren etc) Would look very good.

Not 100% sure which Ibanez to pur it on yet, what do you rekon?

I would put the plaid on a JEM, and the hollywood print on like a Gibson, if it was me. Thats a cool idea dude... So would you like put a clear coat over it or just leave it.
