In not just one, but TWO different H-S-H JS-1's, when they are at rest I get normal feedback in the neck and bridge positions and it will stop when I touch the strings. Pretty normal stuff.
When in the center, single coil position especially, as well as positions 2 and 4 to a lesser extent because they incorporate the single coil the sound is more of a squeal than feedback but regardless of what it is, the sound doesn't stop when I touch the strings.
Is this the classic definition of pickups that have gone
microphonic? From what I read it is but it is strange that it is happening on two different guitars. Granted they are the same model and were made at basically the same time about 15-16 years ago.
Considering the price of getting the pickups re-potted I'd just as soon buy new ones but before I do I wanted to see if anyone had any other differing opinions or possible solutions. A tech has said that shielding would not have an effect on this issue.
Thanks.
