mid boost clapton strat

hi girls,

im playing the powerhouse strat, the little brother of the amazing clapton strat. its equiped with an always running 12 db mid bosst. my question is: how can i build in a switch, that deactivates/activates this boost, without loosing the regular signal of the guitar.

any ideas?

thx

I'm 99% sure there's already an on-off switch on the powerhouse strat. Is there a small push-button on the face of the pickguard? Maybe a push/pull tone pot? I've played the model before, and I can't remember how it switches, but I remember it switching...

mh no push pull, the middle poti is different, its golden not silver and it" snaps in" when its at 10, put theres no change of the volume

Theres your answer. You have a mid boost guitar and a weird pot that snaps at the end. Definitly not a coincidence.

It sounds like your one tone pot is actually the mid boost control notched at one end to turn it off. From what I know of fenders you should notice something if this is true. Start with both tone controls turned clockwise. Now play your bridge pickup and turn the regular (not gold) tone knob down and it should sound muffled. Now try it on the necck pickup. If that same tone knob works for all 3 pickups then theres no need for a second tone knob with a notch. That gold one is your mid boost controll.

yes, it's possible and it should be real easy.

The pot probably got 4 soldering points. 3 of them are the normal pot and the 4th is the switch. You just need to find out wich one of the other 3 it switches too. Then you have the two points that you solder on to your new switch.

haha, well said.

You COULD do a two-way switch, but from the sound of it, you might not want to- I'm guessing it's a variable boost, where you can dial in the amount of boost with that second knob. Why would you want to go to a simple on-off when you've got the extra control already?
