Cool

mmmmmm, maple board with mahogany vine :D

cos there just aint enough maple boards and im not a fan of plastic inlays (well some of them are OK)

so, part of my latest project... just couldnt keep it to myself
the pieces are not glued in yet and the board needs fret slots (of course) before levelling a radiusing.

I may even swap out some of the leaves for purpleheart.. or ebony...

pics are low res and grainy - sorry !

Purpleheart might be very difficult to work with, but it is lovely wood all the same.

Very cool. I love maple necks. Such a shame Ibanez doesn't.

Nice work. Looking forward to seeing the finished product strapped on a body.

What are you going to do for the body?

its gonna be a simple thru body strung H-H AANJ mahogany body - possibly with an intricate inlay design, no armrest and chrome hardware.....

although I might just make a JEM H-H config body !
perhaps I should put it to the vote ?

This is so awsome!!!

How did you cut the inlays so well? How long did it take you to draw out all that and cut it.

AHA !!!!

thats where I get "busted!"

I have a CNC router so I start by cutting all the timber and thicknessing the fingerboard, then I CNC the inlays and get this..

then I run the mahogany strip through the bandsaw to "release" the inlay pieces.
then I trim and sand the inlays to fit perfectly and then theres still loads of work to do........
I cut a 0.8mm strip of mahogany for the vine stem and once these are all glued in place, its time to radius and slot

Man.....I really wish I had all that woodworking stuff.
I would love to be able to build my own guitars and parts.

How it cost you for your router etc?
