modding an RG520....which pickups? - Evolutions or Breeds or

thinking bout getting a new Ibanez RG520 and replacing the pickups

my early thoughts are to put an Evolution in the neck and a Breed in the bridge...what do you guys think

my thoughts are that the Evolutions are awesome pickups but are pretty bright sounding and the Mahagony of the RG520 is pretty bright sounding wood, so an Evo in the bridge may be too bright/trebly, but that a Breed in the bridge would work

what do you guys think? any experience with different pickups in an RG520? let me know

thanks

I had one with a Humbucekr from Hell and a Tone Zone in it and they worked very well with the guitar.

Good luck.

thanks Kirk...anyone else have any ideas?

I'm leaning towards just putting Evolutions in it

My favorite combo is an Air Norton @ the neck and an EVO or Super3 @ Bridge. I have had great luck with this combination in several RGs and it gives you an very wide range of tone.

Air Norton-warm, but not muddy. It's hot, but not distorted. It's even got cool harmonics...

Super 3- Is like a mid chunky super distortion (big balls)

EVO- you know

I like to go from playing full clear tones (air nort) to very aggressive rhythms with bright leads (super 3). Nothing wrong with an EVO in the bridge but I don't feel like there is enough tone in the neck for me(w/EVO).

my 2¢

If it was me, I'd reverse that idea AJ. *Most guitar techs will tell you that you want the hotter pickup at bridge. *Due to the placement, a bridge pickup needs more output to match a neck pickup.

I'd recommend:

Neck: *PAF Pro
Mid: *FS-2 or YJM
Bridge: *Evolution

Now, if you want an Evolution in the neck, I'd recommend a higher output bridge.

Neck: Evolution
Mid: S3
Bridge: Evolution, X2N or Seymour Duncan Invader

thanks much for the feedback...that makes sense that one would want to have a hot bridge pickup...I amde the decision that I'm definitely gonna put an EVO in the bridge

as for the neck I'm thinking either an EVO or a Breed

theres no middle pickup in the RG520Q
