Cool

Modding my S, advise needed...

Hi guys!
I was thinking of doing the following to my S520EX which already has a 5-way switch, volume knob and tone knob.

1) Add a blend pot (Add in area of electronics cavity, a mini pot)
Blend pot activated when 5 way selector, in middle position which instead of having both hums in parallel, both hums are on.

2) A push-pull Volume pot
This toggles between hi pass filter and off.

3) Use an Original Fender No Load Tone Pot
Found here http://guitarelectronics.zoovy.com/c...s.2controlpots
Is this a good pot? I know there's a mod for existing tone pots to have this wide open setting when at 10, but I like the idea of having that resistance so its like a solo switch.

4) Refret with steel frets
I read up abt the tone change and all, and I think its ok since my tone is already on the darker side. However, is the risk of damage to my fretboard greater when refretting? I've been told steel frets are hard to install and pull out. The main concern here is the risk...

What do you guys think? This is my very first electric guitar and it holds a lot of sentimental value for me... I want it to be even more special in terms of tonal capacity and hardware.

Cheerio!
Daniel

I would go with some new pickups before anything.

I agree with Kontalonis. You seem to be bypassing the obvious.
My philosophy on refrets is if it ain't broke, don't fix it. The purpose is to make an unplayable guitar where the frets can't be dressed into a like new player. And it's very hard to do.

Fancy pots may not fit in the S cutout, especially in the tone control position. Check before starting any permanent changes.

Hmmm... I've already got Dimarzio Breeds inside my S....

The refretting job is needed already... Its my only axe and 2 years of hard playing has driven deep grooves into most of the frets... So I'm looking at steel frets for long lasting goodness.

Thanks JESTER700, I'd check out the pot sizes first... yeah man, better be safe than sorry!
