My tremolo sucks - And I can't find a new one, help me pleas
I have a pretty nice Ibanez. Looks like an s-series, but it says custom made on the neck and has a few other features I haven't seen on regular production models. Anyway, my problem is the
tremolo system
. The neck is 41mm. at the nut and 54mm. at the last fret. The nut and bridge are the same size that they put on guitars with the stock wizard necks, so the strings set right on the edge of the
fret board
. I've been looking for a new Floyd Rose cuz that's what is on it. I don't know if there are any names that make similar versions or anything, but if there are that would work for me. If anyone reads this and knows about a tremolo that would fit, I would be very grateful to hear about it.
Thanks........James

My tremolo sucks
What type of trm is it? Is a TRS or a LoPro? Do you know the model of the guitar?

My tremolo sucks
It's a lopro. I don't know what model but it looks like a s-series with the hum-single-hum pickups.

My tremolo sucks
What kind of inlays on the fretboard? *Binding? *Sounds like the neck may have been swapped if the nut isn't a good fit. *There were lots of H-S-H sabres; is yours flamed? *What don't you like about the trem? *Is it just beat or don't you like the style?

My tremolo sucks
What is the center to center measurment between the trem post's? Also does it look as though the anchors that hold the post's in may not be original?

My tremolo sucks
The guitar is all original and pretty much in mint cond. The neck has been sanded some, but other than that there are no scratches or anything. The neck is wizard styled with abalone inlay, and it says custom made at the 21st fret. The body has some sort of high gloss burl wood finish, with
cosmo black hardware
.The pickups say QM2 at the bridge, and QM1 at the mid & neck. The nut and trem work great, but I'm haveing that problem with the E strings sliding off the edge of the fret board cuz the neck was sanded. The trem measures about 73mm. from the center of each post.
Thanks.......James

My tremolo sucks
I think it sounds like a standard 540S from the mid 90's, but I don't know why the nut is 41mm - should be 43.

My tremolo sucks
Yeah, the nut is about 43mm. but the neck is 41-54 instead of 43-56 cuz it has been sanded some. The nut and bridge are perfect, but they don't fit the neck since it isn't as wide as it originaly was. I don't know why I said my tremolo sucks. I guess I was just frustrated looking for a new one. I'll think of a better subject title next time.
So can I get away with just replacing the nut, or will I have to find a bridge to match? I've seen the
Floyd Rose
locking system for sale, with all hardware included, but I can't find one to my fit 41-54mm. neck.

My tremolo sucks
I'd try just replacing the nut to be honest, try finding one that's the right width...
If possible It might br an idea to replace the neck, unless you prefer it sanded down.

My tremolo sucks
Thanks, I'll start hunting for a new nut. I'm sort of worried that the strings might not stay level with the edge of the fret board though.
Will it hurt the sound if the strings are not right on top of the pole pieces?

Hell with the nut, the neck is your problem, address the *problem*.

My tremolo sucks
Yeah, I meant "the neck AT the nut" should be 43mm but just wrote "the nut". *I'm with Rich - the neck is the problem. *However, if it plays OK to you, you could just put a thinner nut on there. *I dunno about a 41, but a 42 would at least be better, and cheaper than a neck. *But that's your call...

My tremolo sucks
I would rather replace the nut and bridge than the neck. Finding those for sale in the size I need is my problem. The neck is my favorite part of the guitar. I'll keep looking for a while. If I don't find anything I might go trade it off er somethin.
thanks guys

My tremolo sucks
there is no need to replace the bridge... all
locking trems
come one size at the saddle with various sized nut widths available to match the guitar they're installed on.
