My UV trem. - tooo stiff

Recently I went to a guitar store to try out some amps and they had a newer (01 model) uv7777bk. So obviously I used this to try the amps out.

I am sure it was equipped with 9's. Anyways the trem was soo loose.. and seemed like the bar was bent at a different angle than mine.

I have 10's on mine and a 56 B. Will it make THAT much of a difference?

I mean my bar is like a pain to even use it is sooo stiff.

Well depending on how many trem springs you have, how old your Uni is and how often you play might have something to do with it??? Plus you could block the trem on your Universe and leave it that way for a day or two(two might be to long not sure). That will stretch your springs out.

How much do you use the trem when you play?

Not all that much...because it is a pain to use it.

I really think my bar is bent differently....I'll have to go pull a switcheroo if it is

My UV trem.

My new UV trem was very stiff also. *I followed all the set up tips in the tutorial here on the site to make sure everything was set up properly and the I proceded to abuse my trem violently for awhile, just playing Van Halen style. *After just a few minutes, my trem felt much more fluid. *The springs will develope a memory of sorts, and become accustom to staying in one position. *They need to be flogged every so often if you don't use your trem much. *I don't use mine much at all so I have to make a point of abusing it every few weeks. *Once broken in, you whole guitar will feel much "looser", string bends will be like butter. *I would worry about the creaking so much at this point...just make sure that you double check that everything is mechanically sound before you go off on it.

Yes, the 10s make a huge difference. The UV trem is alot stiffer than a 6-string (with similar strings) to begin with. Now add 10s and you have more string tension and more tremolo counter-tension to keep the tuning.

Breaking in the guitar as posted above will help dramatically, but the 10s will be a limiting factor... glen
