Naked RG

Here is the RG that I've sanded down. I just dropped the pickups and the neck in to see what it would look like. I am going to go for some kind of natural finish, whether it is tung oil or something like the Reb Beach Voyager natural finish (anybody know what that is... stain of some sort?)

here's the site

Re: Naked RG

Any finish on that jem, or are you going to leave it naked? It looks cool now, I just wonder how dinged up it will get with no protection. I like the way mine looks now, I'm just affraid of what it might look like after I actually play it alot. You've definitely got me thinking about a black pickguard now too.

Re: Naked RG

I cant leave it natural cause I made it have a jem style jack and i filled the other whole so if i did it naturally you could see the wood filler and it would look horrible.. Im going to paint it black... You want it natural with a black pickguard, check this out:

Re: Naked RG

The first one says it's an Ash body, looks like it's an oiled finish. I wonder if the basswood would look similar with tung oil or if I should stain. I like that look.

Re: Naked RG

Try some Tru Oil. Apply several light coats with a coffee filter. Prety much fool proof. Looks great, is clear but will darken the wood a little, and is very durable. A lot of people are using it to finish acoustic guitars and just lots of different stuff. It's called "Birch Casey's Tru Oil." You can get it at Wallymart in the gun supply section. It's a gun stock finish.

If your talking about mine its a custom RG from LGM. It looks all out of wack because when i resized the picture i didnt make the scale right or watever so its not proportional. Its a sick axe!

Anyway sorry to hijaack the thread but i agree with Shep and Rotti.... Will look great!

Refinish RG to Natura Finish - How to? for amateurs!

Hi, i´m looking to refinish my RG470, i really want a natural finish, but i have the question... after the sanding.. i know the oil is to give the color to the wood, but after that, what do i apply to the wood to be protected??? because the guitar wood is really delicate isnt it? i want that Bad Horsie finish (i little bit lighter) something like the RGT2020, the RGA121 From Ibanez...

what kind of oil??? do i need wood sealer??? i really like the wood feel on my hands, i dont like laquer finish or anything like that...

thanks!
