nasty noise from prestige rg (that high fret warbling noise that you DONT want)

hi
i have a friend's prestige 2550 (i think its a 2550, it has a pickguard and small dot inlays) at my house to set up for him and im having a strange problem.

you know that sound you get when the pickup/s are too close to the strings, it makes that warbling sound (wawawawawawa) particularly on higher frets on distortion on string G and B but also on others, it just seems to show more on these strings.

I tried lowering the pickups (to their minimum) and still it sounds as disgusting as ever!

The guitar is not perfectly intonated, could this have something to do with it?

im not sure what to do about, i think i can even hear it unamplified (am i going crazy?)

If you've eliminated pickup height then check the intonation. You'd be surprised the difference it makes when a guitar is properly intonated. I suspect you have beats (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Beat_(acoustics)) between the fretted note and one of the harmonics (possibly on an adjacent string).

I had this problem with my cheap Epiphone SG, intonating it didnt help.

I put new strings on it and re-intonated and the problem just went away.

also reduce anything between guitar and amp. Remove all pedals etc. Happens on all the pickups?

+1, I once set up a friend´s warlock which sounded just like you said in the last frets of the high strings, I just changed the strings and there was no more weird buzzing, I just intonated and that was it

gotta wait on the setup because i thought he said 9 - 46, but i put on a set of those suckers and whoaha the bridge went way up, so im trying to get onto him to ask if he want me to set up in 9 - 46 or maybe 9 - 42 like i guess he was using

maybe you only have to stretch the strings so the bridge goes back to neutral? I´m almost shure that a setup with new strings will solve the problem

so is all set up, playing nice and intonated (took ages) and the problem of the noise has eased but is still not nice and def worse than my 570 which i have a tonezone in bridge...hhhhmnnnn.....

is it perhaps electronics?

pickups are still far from strings.
