Need neck shim?

Hi guys. I bought the guitar when I was younger, and didn't know this was a defect with the guitar. Now that I'm older.. I realize it could be a very bad problem. The guitar is an RG3120... and well, I'll let the pictures speak the words in this:

Someone suggested that the pocket may have been incorrectly routed, I'm not sure. What I do know is I get some awkward buzzing and some awkward action as a result. Should I shim this neck? Or is this unrepairable and just to keep it like this?

I read the shim guide on jemsite, however I am unsure if this is something I should do or if a pro should do it. I've setup all of my own guitars, but never attempted this.

Please help me

Need a pic of your lo pro edge from the side to tell for sure. If it's too deep in the body, you may need a shim.

Re: Need neck shim?

so, what's the problem?

If you are referring to the neck running off at an angle to the face of the body, that's not a problem, it's just the way the guitar is set up, and has zip to do with fret buzz and rattle.

Re: Need neck shim?

My RG3120 was exactly the same. It also had fret buzz and bad action, by the way. I messed with that guitar for hours and it never felt right. Mine was a 2001 model in Deep Red.

Re: Need neck shim?

That looks normal, its already shimmed for better up-pull range and low action.

Re: Need neck shim?

I could never get the action as low as I like without insane buzzing.

Maybe your expectations were unrealistic? :-)

Re: Need neck shim?

Why? Don't you think that after playing for 27 years I know what kind of action I like and what's possible?

Noodleface, you need to post some pics of the trem. From looking at the pictures, it looks like the neck has been shimmed already. Maybe the trem is set too high? Like I said, we need to see pics of the trem.

Re: Need neck shim?

dee have you ever had your frets leveled, I've played a prestige ibanez hardtail at GC where the action was way too low for anyone to desire imo and there was still no buzz

Re: Need neck shim?

I didn't have them levelled on that particular guitar, it was sold a few months ago to help pay for the RG 20th.

I'm betting it's just the same as mine which had the standard thin brown card shim that most Ibanez guitars get. Nowhere near thick enough to angle it so much. You'd need a fairly thick shim to angle the neck like that!
