Need Pin-Out for Ibanez Stock 5-way Switch

Does anyone have an internal pin-out diagram for the stock Ibanez 5-way switch used on most of the H-S-H configured guitars?

What I'm looking for is text or a diagram that states something like:

In switch position 1, poles 1 and 6 are active/connected
In switch position 2, pole 1 is active/connected
In switch position 3, poles 2 and 3 are active/connected

etc...

Thanks in advance!

Did you look through the wiring diagrams on the Ibanez website, Race?

Yeah--only shows where to connect the pickups--not the internal pin-out of the actual switch. I found some stuff on StewMac that I'm trying to interpolate...

If it's from an H-S-H Ibanez and it's not a VLX91 (super switch), it should be the same as any other 5-way. Here are the terminals:

0a 1a 2a 3a 1b 2b 3b 0b

And here's how they're connected:

position 1: 0a-1a, 0b-1b
position 2: 0a-1a, 0a-2a, 0b-1b, 0b-2b
position 3: 0a-2a, 0b-2b
position 4: 0a-2a, 0a-3a, 0b-2b, 0b-3b
position 5: 0a-3a, 0b-3b

position 5: 0a-3a, 0b-3b
This doesn't seem like it can be correct. According to the Ibanez H-S-H wiring diagrams, taking the bridge pickup, for example, it says to connect the hot output to terminal 1 (your 0a) and the tap to terminal 6 (your 2b) which would yield no output.

The StewMac article I found shows the termnals as follows:

Pole 1 | Pole 2

1 2 3 0 0 1 2 3

Zero is the pole sweeper. As such, what I'm interpolating out is the following:

Position 1 (Bridge): Pole 1 (On) 3, Pole 2 (On) 1(Bridge hot + Bridge coils)
Position 2: Pole 1 (On) 2-3, Pole 2 (Off) (Bridge pickup coil tapped, middle single on)
Position 3: Pole 1 (On) 2, Pole 2 (On) 2 (Middle Single only)
Position 4: Pole 1 (On) 1-2, Pole 2 (Off) (Neck pickup coil tapped, middle single on)
Position 5: Pole 1 (On) 1, Pole 2 (On) 1 (Neck hot + Neck coils)

Pole 1 tab 0 and Pole 2 tab 2 connected to ground.

Now--I'm open to the idea I'm reading the switch upside-down, which would make the bridge connections tabs 1 and 6 instead of 3 and 8, but either way, I think this pin-out is correct.

Would love to hear thoughts on this....

Re: Need Pin-Out for Ibanez Stock 5-way Switch

Yeah, you're right. It's not correct. My bad. If you put the common lugs on the inside (as opposed to the outside) it is correct, though:

|1 2 3 0||0 1 2 3|

from left to right, as in this diagram:

position 1: bridge hot - out (bridge humbucker in normal series humbucking mode)
position 2: bridge hot - out, single coil hot - out, bridge tap - ground (one coil of bridge humbucker in parallel with single coil in humbucking mode)
position 3: single coil hot - out (single coil only, not humbucking)
position 4: neck hot - out, single coil hot - out, neck tap - ground (one coil of neck humbucker in parallel with single coil in humbucking mode)
position 5: neck hot - out (neck humbucker in normal series humbucking mode)

Note that in positions 1 and 5 the coil tap wire from each humbucker is not connected to anything. This is exactly what you want for standard serial humbucking mode. The coil tap in these pickups is connected to both the start of one coil's wind and the finish of the other. In other words, it's already wired internally for standard humbucking mode. All you have to do is connect the red wire to the output and the ground wire to ground.

Re: Need Pin-Out for Ibanez Stock 5-way Switch

Correct--positions one and five are the equivalent of having the humbucker coil wires twisted together but not attached to anything--same as in a dual-humbucker guitar with no coil splitting.

Strong work!!
