New build RG-ish with veneer

Started a new build this week
Ash blank

jigsawed out

Glue on veneer with cheap vacuum storage bags

trim off the edges

Had the day off today so did some more, routed & trem inserts in

roughed out the back, big belly contour, aanj, with added added wide stretch & thumb contour & side angled where it sits on your leg

plenty of sanding to do & then play around with some dyes

Killer work! I love the round over on the back edge. What color stain?

Looks good man. Whenever i see a nice quilt veneer or top I always suggest the dragonburst finish .

Re: New build RG-ish with veneer

That looks great!! I have a couple of questions for you:
1. how did you bend the veneer over the arm rest?
2. could you describe your staining technique? I'm starting a new build myself.

Thanks

Hi, the veneer is really thin so bends easily over the arm rest when it clamped down or in the vacuum bag. The glue should be spread thin & even, if its too thick can soak through the thin veneer - then you'll have trouble getting the dye even.

is a nice link for the doing the stain & shows how much you sand back if you apply the black before the colour.
