Re: New Chrome Painted Ibanez

Hmmm, should be really careful around naked basswood, little knock at the edges could dent it easily.

I'd suggest you go for pickup rings, make it look more original just like the chromeboy. You could even put one for the single coil, anyways, ur option.

Re: New Chrome Painted Ibanez

Looks great!

I assume that once it's clearcoated it will be as durable as any other standard finish.

Awesome.

Re: New Chrome Painted Ibanez

I think a clearcoat would mess things up if that chrome surface is already smooth

Re: New Chrome Painted Ibanez

if u don't clearcoat it with a strong poly... i bet it'll be VERY easy to damage or scratch the paintjob.

Re: New Chrome Painted Ibanez

Better find a good clearcoat that sticks very well to smooth finish. Or else they're just gonna peel right out

Re: New Chrome Painted Ibanez

AWESOME CHROME! Love it!
The thing i'm not diggin is the PU rings. I hate PU rings...
I do prefer direct mount.
BTW, that chrome is the best chrome paint i've ever seen!

Re: New Chrome Painted Ibanez

Let's see if he can get the clear to stick. Can't wait to see pics when it's complete.

In the meantime...what is your plan for the clear?

Re: New Chrome Painted Ibanez

Great job. I think it looks more like REAL chrome. Not as flashy or eye hurty.

Nah, leave the pup rings, you don't want it looking like a chrome boy cos then it's not original anymore...

Re: New Chrome Painted Ibanez

I custom mixed a blend of Alklad. Once the guitar is clear coated it will be just as durbable as any other paint job and will still look exactly the same as it does now, but by putting a clear on it whenever you wipe it off you won't be wiping the chrome but rather the clear, so it really must be cleared to perserve the chrome look. The paint is very soft and you dont really want to touch it anymore than you have to with it uncleared, but once cleared it will be a rock hard finish and super shiny. I will use the same clear I always use, which is super clear and super hard. I'm going out of town for the weekend, but I plan to clear it on Monday when I clear some other guitars and probably list it on the bay later this week.

Glad everybody likes it!!
