New Knife Edges - Image in post

G'day all,

Below is a picture of the replacement knife edges Spiro sent me, which he can get through Ibanez Australia.

It might add some light to the discussion that was going on in here a while back.

Other pic's are available if needed or I could shoot others.

Tony

They said they'd call me back about that one... that was about 3 years ago.... I'm sure they're working hard on it as always. *:sarcasm:

New Knife Edges

They are both new knife edges that are exactly the same as the ones in Lo Pro Edge and original Edge Ibanez tremolo's.

I've posted this picture with "New" in the title as there was a discussion recently about Ibanez not listing this as a replacement part.

Buying the replacement edges is an option for those who feel comfortable and skilled enough in removing and re-setting new knife edges in their Ibanez Lo Pro or Edge tremolo bases.

Hope that clarifies things ?

Spiro uses pliers, but I found cutting a notch in the centre of the old knife edge with a hacksaw, then very carefully and slowly fit a flat bladed screwdriver into the notch and lever it out with the screwdriver pivoting against the saddle side of the base. You cannot make any forceful movements, or tap the screwdriver hard or the base will fatigue and crack. The old edge will twist so you have to lightly tap it back so it comes out at 90 degrees to the base.

This isn't an exercise for the faint hearted. *: )

Just slide them in the sockets the way the others came out.

Shouldn't need anything else to fix them in place, but if you wanted to you could put a dab of glue on the the new inserts, that might make future changes impossible though.

Spiro has the experience here and I haven't asked him yet if he "set's" them with anything.

New Knife Edges

Hey everyone...

Thanks for the photo Tony... (tried calling tonight but no answer)

Rich I'll get you setup for stock (In confidence of course) I'll email ya all the details..

The part numbers for the following are:

47111A *Straight edge knife

47111B Curved edge knife

And Guys........ no one here is complete expert and you learn something new everyday...

I guess that is what forums are for... * To spread Knowledge and to learn...

Some people just need direction in their views more than others..

I think that people need an open mind and to stop flaming others for their opinion on something that they may think they know everything about..

I have been in the repair of musical instrument business since 1989 and have been learning something new everyday.. If I stopped learning I would be dead.. I have learnt things from this forum (especially from Brian at Universal jems) as well and NEVER gave anyone flack about their opinion Until I could back it up with evidence..

I have worked for some of the most respected Musical instrument shops in Australia and never have I had a bad rep in any of them.. (in Fact I was normally headhunted between jobs) *I now run my own repair business and get quite alot of work out of it as well (I am actually a Network administrator by day) and mainly return business which is more important than anything else.. Rich would know this.

I am also a moderator on 2 other NON BRAND related guitar forums for people with limited knowledge or looking for other opinions..

People on this forum need to be more open minded sometimes and help even those who dont like certain things that you like.. hell i love ibanez guitars and have great knowledge of them but dont consider myself a self confessed expert on the matter.. I Listen to everyone else and put together my own arguments rather than prophesise what I know..

I dont know but maybe us Australians are a little bit more relaxed and hardly ever get hot headed when we are provoked ( maybe that is why we dont have the crime problems you americans have..)

In conclusion... lets make this place a better knowledge base than a flaming forum for stupid topics *(that is what guitar.com is for... a bunch of self confessed 16 year old experts with no moderation)

that is all I have to say about that (in forrest Gump voice..)

I would hope none of us have played expert on this, our distributor, who is part of the Hoshino Company itself, has told us that the knives aren't available and there wasn't a part #. My mind is very open, that's why my brain's always falling out. Send me 5 sets if you can spare them, I'll drop you an email.

Sorry Rich if you thought I was flaming about this post.. It was just a release that has been building up about this forum for quite sometime.. And you were not part of the flame (sorry if you took that in any way as intended towards any individual person)..

I have been visiting this forum for 4 years now and have learnt alot but something bothered me and I vented.. that's all.

I will email you all the details...
