Newer RG with old Super Wizard neck?

I have a newer RG321mh with a Wizard 2. I'm wondering if I can find an older Super Wizard (which I like better), will it bolt right up?

I guess it may be a bit of a headache to find one, but this mod could make me really love this guitar.

thanks!

according to this website, both are 56mm at the last fret. the question is whether you can find an old super wizard with aanj. i can't answer that question and don't know if they exist.

The RG550EX had a super wizard and AANJ, at the very least.

Regardless, for the price you could find one for and no guarantee of condition, I would be tempted to just go custom and get something extreme awesome.

Re: Newer RG with old Super Wizard neck?

I thought about custom, but the only thing is getting an exact match of the Ibby profile and not having to wait forever. I've looked into some shops and those are the concerns I've found.

If I understand correctly, the Super Wizard is just a Wizard 1 with AANJ....right? Like on a few new Ibanez models this year (which a maple fretboard would be awesome, but not sure any older SW's had that).

Super wizard is just the original wizard produced with the newer multi piece construction, either 3 or 5 piece with bubinga, maple or walnut stripes. Profile is the same as always 17mm@ 1st fret,19mm @ 12th fret with a 430mmR radius. They are wider at the last fret by 2mm deep in the pocket, but feel the same as the 80's versions in the hands. They also have volute's on most of the more recent ones (lump behind the nut, thumb rest). The BEST Ibanez necks!

ET will do you a super wizard profile with jsut about anything you can ask for. last I checked I think his wait time was only a couple months. Its a wait I know, but what you get in the end will be pretty much superior to any stock neck.

Are you sure about that? I emailed him a couple months ago about a super wizard neck and this was his reply.
Hi Andrew,

No, the price is the same, you have a choice of profile, however the thinnest
we do is a Wizard2, at 18.5mm 1st fret, 20.5 at 12th.

Cheers,

Did it change in the last few months?

Re: Newer RG with old Super Wizard neck?

I have an email dated 18/09/08 where he quoted me this neck and said no problem:

"The neck would be a 24 fret AANJ for that body, with the super wizard profile, bubinga 3 piece, and tree of life on a maple fretboard, with standard tuners, and locking nut installed."

Why don't you just sand it down real finely and then tung oil it or something?
just an idea.

Re: Newer RG with old Super Wizard neck?

Folks, just to clarify...

The thinnest neck we prefer to make is 18.5mm at 1st fret, and has a profile and feel similar to an Ibanez Wizard2 style.

Not sure about the email to GuitarBizarre, don't really remember the context and detail, but we did not mean to mislead anyone. I repeat, we do not at this stage make Super Wizard style profiles, that could be used as replacements on Ibanez guitars.

We are investigating the Super Wizard style, but our construction will need to be different, especially with the truss rod. We would need to use the smaller single way acting truss rod, rather than our preferred two way acting rods.
