Not enough pull up on my Edge

I've searched for this and read Rich's info. But I still don't get it. So...

When I pull up with my Edge trem, I don't think that I am getting enough pull up. I played a 4th fret harmonic, and when I pull up the trem it only goes to D#

So, I guess I need to raise the trem. Is that right?

If so, I guess I need to shim the neck (to maintain the right action with the raised trem height). Does this mean that I need to place the shim on the body side of the pocket?

Yep. One slim shim on the body side of the neck pocket, then re-assemble and set up your trem height again.

Or you can route the trem cavity a bit deeper, if you like the feel of a low bridge.

Re: Not enough pull up on my Edge

I ran into a couple things that were limiting my RG7620's (Lo-Pro Edge 7) pull-up range before it would hit the padded routed area.

When I got it, the action was a little high on the treble strings even with that post all the way down, so I shimmed the neck to get the desired action with posts even and knife edges a bit more than 50% above the face of the guitar. That would be slightly lower than where this trem is: http://www.jemsite.com/tech/img/t_trang3.jpg

After that, I noticed the trem bar socket was hitting the body before anything else when pulling up. Once I removed wood from that spot, I realized the base was hitting a slight ridge of finish on the edge opposite the padded area, just beneath the knife edge in this picture: http://www.jemsite.com/tech/img/trem_angle_ibzlopro.gif

I scraped the excess finish off, and that's what it took for the trem to finally max out from the fine tuner springs hitting the padding. Depending how the finish built up and how high the posts are, you might not encounter the second problem. I'd guess that the bar socket contact is more common.

Re: Not enough pull up on my Edge

Thanks for that Bakerman. I will check those areas on my RG.

So far I have shimmed the neck quite a bit, and the trem is now really quite high. I feel that the pull-up is now OK, but I think that the trem shouldn't need to be that high to get this range. So, maybe a little tidying of the routing is in order,
