nut shim material

What do you use to shim the nut on guitars you've had that needed adjustment in this area? There isn't enough of that thin shimming metal under the nut of my latest aquisition and i wondered what others did when they encountered the same problem?

cheers

Aluminum cans work great

And FYI - Beer cans are classier than soda cans

Re: nut shim material

Emery paper works well for shimming as the course grainy side helps the connection between the two surfaces. Good for locking nut shims and neck joint shims.

Re: nut shim material

Something I used to do is cut up some post its, start with too many and remove them one at a time until it's at the right height.

Re: nut shim material

Actually, if you normally switch to a finner grit, you will get a thinner shim. Try that, Jose, if you think your sandpaper shim is too thick.
