Odd sized truss rod nut

I have an Ibanez RG550 from 93' that has apparently decided it doesn't want the truss rod nut to fit anything.

In the past I remember tweaking it with some arbitrary size but I decided to set it up again yesterday I grimly realized that it wouldn't take anything I gave it.

Started with my team J craft tool. WAY too big. Then I moved to my socket wrench collection. I finally realized that my 7.5mm socket was too small yet my 8.0mm socket was too big. Obviously I don't have a 7.75mm socket and I don't know where to get one.

WTF do I do? This thing has a little bit of bow and I wanna fix it.

Re: Odd sized truss rod nut

is it definitely metric? 5/16" inch is inbetween those two at 7.9mm, and it's a commonly available socket size

Re: Odd sized truss rod nut

I have a 94 RG550 LTD neck and the 7MM works for mine. are you sure it is not the angle that is messing with you?? I had to put my socket on then insert my extension. I use a 1/4" drive and extension. If I try to do it with extension on it acts like it is to big for socket. maybe try a 9/32 or 11/32 one is smaller then 5/16 the other is bigger. 9/32 is 7.144 mm 5/16 is 7.938 mm and 11/32 is 8.731 mm. Depending on what quality of tools you have.
