OK to swap pickups from neck to bridge?? - and vice versa?

What can I expect if I put in a neck pickup in the bridge and also the other way around??

I'm kinda of broke and pickups are hard to come by and very expensive where I live. *I can get my hands on a cheap used DiMarzio Breed for the neck and I'm thinking of throwing it in the bridge of my RG. *

Thanks

Bridge pups are generally have more output and maybe more bass & mids than neck ones IN A MATCHED SET. *This is because the magnetic field generated by strings at the bridge is weaker (and brighter sounding). *But if you know the characteristics of the pups you're interested in, you can make some educated guesses as to how they'll match up. *Or, you COULD just go for it. *You can always change it back. *

Some pups work well both places, but they're usually vintage or pseudo-vintage, "all around" designs. *More specialized ones tend to not be as flexible.

Along the lines of the original question, I was wondering if anyone here has ever tried an Ibanez V7 pup in the bridge position. I think I'll give it a go. If I don't like it I'll throw the old V8 back in as I'm sick of the DiMarzio PAF Pro that's in there now.

Michael Romeo (from Symphony X) has a Dimarzio Tone Zone in the neck position of his ESP, and it sounds great.......so it can work. *just find the right pickup for the right guitar.
