Question

Only bottom 3 strings not returning to pitch?

Alright so I did a COMPLETE setup except intonation. I had my entire Ibanez apart because I had to change the neck angle slightly, put a new input jack and new strings.

My question is I have the guitar setup beautifully, great action, no buzzing. The only problem is when I pull up on the bar only my bottom 3 strings remain slightly sharp. What gives? Any ideas? I checked the knife edges and studs and both are excellent. Also I have the new posts in my guitar with the locks. The nut is secured tightly as well.

I have not yet tried the chapstick trick on Rich's site but once I get some I'll let you know how it works. Any suggestions in the meantime?

One more thing. My guitar doesn't pull up as far as I like, what can I do to increase the amount of pullup?

To increase pullup range you can add a shim in the neck pocket (put it at the body end of the neck). This will allow you to raise the bridge without raising the action too much.

Make sure you've tightened and secured the nut clamps/string lockers carefully, dont want those strings to slip from the grip.

thanks dee...i know that...was hoping for more...i may raise my action but i can still get a good tone with low action.

satch has good tone with low action and a nice pullup.....is it the radius on his neck? i'm going to get a nicer rounder neck on my next guitar...the rg just plays like butter...i can pull off **** on that guitar so easily

Alright guys...I used carmex on the studs and it worked wonders BUT it's not perfect. I noticed today that the locking nut on for the low E and A strings is stripped and if I tighten it past a certain point it gets loose again. Any quick fixes for this without buying a new nut?

Is the nut itself stripped or the locking screw? If its just the screw you can buy new ones at lows and cut them down to fit, otherwise your probably fubared.

Helicoil. You can call around for somebody local and see if you can find somebody with metric helicoil kits [machinists, mechanics, etc.] otherwise you can send it to me with $25 and I'll fix it. It'll be stronger after the fix that it was before.
