Original Edge

Does anyone have a routing map for this?
I've got a project guitar I'm working on and I have a spare Edge,
I have looked far and wide for it and I haven't seen one so far.

Any help would be GREATLY appreciated

Re: Original Edge

That's the template that I had, The guy who was drawing out the plans said that it wasn't correct?
Ah well, I'll try it again.
Thanks

Oh, that's what I was wondering...
Could I install the edge Without having an angled neck like the template says?
Also, recessing... how would i go about this?

Re: Original Edge

Judging by your questions, I have to say this is likely over your head(no offense intended) and I would recommend finding a good luthier to do the install. This is not for the faint of heart. Once you take a router to a guitar body, you are committed and its pretty easy to ruin the project(trust someone that has made the mistake before). I have done a lot of routing and still mess up now and then. If you really want to tackle it, my best advice is to buy a trashed Ibanez body off the bay and use it as a guide.

Re: Original Edge

I know that this would be abit of a challenge, but I've done routing before and have done alot of researching, I understand the actual routing part of it.
I've got lots of spare wood offcuts to work with before I actually start and I've got help from a professional luthier and also a professional carpenter too, I've watched them enough so I just want to try it myself
If I feel out of my depth when I get into it, I'll pass it to one of them to finish.

Thanks for the advice about getting a body, but this isn't for an Ibanez type guitar, It's a custom shape i'm making

Re: Original Edge

stewmac.com has a template that is designed for recessed floyd routing. It is a generic piece that has 2 rectangular cutouts that correspond to the 2 parts of the route(the wide part near the posts and the narrow part where the fine tuners are). If you cover the area with painter's tape and lay the bridge in place, you can trace around it and use those lines as a guide for placing the template and go at it with a stewmac template router bit. I have done a few of these on non-recessed trems with great results(also handy for modifying 470 and JEM555 models for an Edge bridge).

Thank you VERY much.
I'll look into it

Re: Original Edge

The reference to getting a trashed Ibanez body was so you could create your own templates from the recessed routing that Ibanez has. Once you have templates, then making adjustments for other brands of bridge are pretty simple. If you do try to make your own, 3/8" birch plywood, cabinet grade is a good stock to use and will work much better than the 3/16" lexan templates that you can buy.
