Original Edge Replacement

I recently got a project guitar, my first project actually, an '86 roadstar 2 RG410 that came with a non-recessed original Edge tremolo.

Unfortunately the person that owned this guitar before really did a number on it, and the bridge is beyond repair.

So Im looking for a replacement, I was thinking of an OFR or possibly a gotoh licensed floyd. But I have no experience with routing, so I'm looking for something that would be a drop-in replacement. I dont really want to pay hundreds of dollars for a used edge if I can avoid it. Any ideas, suggestions?

Later,

Steve

You can find a used edge for around the same if your patient and aren't huge on cosmetics. What's all wrong with the bridge if you don't mind me asking?

Re: Original Edge Replacement

It was in pretty poor shape. Missing all the screws to lock down the strings, and the string blocks, and the chrome was very pitted. IIRC one of the saddles was missing too.. the guitar was being parted out, and I just didnt bother picking up the trem because of its condition. Perhaps I should have, but thats water under the bridge at this point.

Wow you were right it's sounds hopeless. You could maybe check out the bay, they have Edge's on there that go for the same if not less than a new Floyd. I think the e bay store Guitar Parts Unlimited usually has a few edges going.

If you're a little patient on the 'Bay you'll find a decent example and should be able to get a good price. I just got one recently for like $55 US I think (around that figure anyway). It was is really good nick, better than the photos let on, I just needed to give it a bit of a clean.

Re: Original Edge Replacement

@brothersgone: yeah, Guitar Parts Unlimited usually has some Edges, but they run quite expensive. I can say for sure since I already bought one Cosmo LoPro and a Cosmo Double Edge LoPro from him. For the DE I paid ~$400...

That's what double edges go for, I've even seen them go for $500 and up.

Re: Original Edge Replacement

Oh, so it's been a good deal for $400 - including the Ctrl-X curcuit, springs, bar, etc. and in mint condition?

But $152,50 for the Cosmo Edge he is currently selling is quite much, isn't it?

Re: Original Edge Replacement

If it is in near mint to mint condition that's about right for the edge. You can get them cheaper, but they usually come with some kind of cosmetic wear for cheaper.

Re: Original Edge Replacement

I agree on grabbing an original dge off the Bay but save your old one as you will likely want to swap out the sustain block as the originals use a tall block and 50/50 you will end up with a short block. The swap is easy. Just loosen all the lockdown screws(for intonation) and the string locking bolts(long allen screws) so you can remove the saddles. The 3 flat-head screws underneath, hold the block. Just pay attention so you get it back together the same way. I have a DOuble Edge that I plan on selling if someone wants to grab it before it goes to the Bay. $400 gets the bridge with the preamp, blend pot and switch. You will need a stereo jack to engage the battery and a second stereo jack if you want seperate outputs. albee1952@bellsouth.net
