Output jack flaked out

Something odd just happened with the output jack on my Jem. I wasn't getting any sound and I noticed that the plug wasn't inserted all the way. When I went to push it in, I was getting some resistance. So I kind of forced it in there and now I only get sound if the jack is pulled out about a quarter of an inch.

Is this a common problem? Is there an easy fix or should I just replace the output jack?

Thanks.

Sounds like it's time for a new jack. The contact is bent or broken off.

Take the backplate off that covers your output jack. Make sure the contact isnt broken off, if it is broken replace, if it is bent, just bend the thing back in place, but you may wish to have it replaced. Unsolder the output jack and take it to your local ibanez dealer, as its a particular type of flushmount jack and wont be in stock in just any guitar shop.

Unfortunately, the jack is closed off on the end, so there's no way easy way to get in there and bend anything back.

I'll try replacing it myself. Thanks for the help, guys.

If its not broken then you could still bend it backin place with a precision screwdriver most likely, not sure never tried it on this type of jack.

I tried. It's way too tight in there to do even with a precision screwdriver. You'd need a very small L-shaped tool or something to pry the contact up.

Those little picks they use for scraping earwax etc. would work. They have a little L shaped end for grabbing things in the ear canal. I assuem you could get one at a drug store for a few bucks. Would be worth it if you could do that rather than have to replace the thing :P
