A friend of mine had that same problem. He used some double sticky tape, and put a 2" wide patch of rubber (ribbed kind like foot rests on mowers have) on it. Worked like a champ for him. --Jason

I had this problem and the only way I got around it was to hold it like a Spanish guitar and make sure my right forearm was helping to hold the guitar firmly in place.

Ridiculous design, great guitars

Well, that's the way I fixed it.
Make sure to play in an upright position, the body will have a 90 degree angle to your leg and it won't go anywhere...

There is no way to play a guitar like that in a lazy position (imagine halfway between sitting and lying on a couch )

I play with classical positioning with the guitar placed on left leg often propping my foot with a stool and supporting with my right forearm. Still doesnt help alot. Im going to try the skateboard tape/rubber padding that should work perfectly come to think of it so thanks for the suggestions .

This is one of the reason's I never bought an ovation. That rounded back just won't work.

That's EXACTLY how I solved that very same problem. Mine has the shallow bowl though, so it's not so bad.

Re: Ovation Slipping off my leg how can i fix?

Yeah, stupid lutes and balalaikas! Thanks for being the inspiration for a helicopter blade engineer to hijack a perfectly good squared off, all wooden acoustic guitar community.

Seriously there's some merit to the roundback, from the simple standpoint that sound waves break out from the source in an expansive, rounded pattern. But I sure don't own one!

They mold a little sandpaper-like section in the leg rest area of the back, but it's not enough. I had a 12-string Applause back when I was a kid, and always had to play it sitting upright. The grip tape ideas already presented are the only things you can do.

Bad sitting down, but functional for me standing up. Also i personally think these sound better than most flatbacks, its just the damn thing rolls too much. Thanks for all the help guys! And Franks right about the lutes .

Truth is, I have had my Ovation for over 10 years and am so used to it now that anything else feels weird. It is a shallow bowl though, BIG difference!

Just Google "self adhesive neoprene foam" and you can have your choice of places to purchase.

My brother had the 12-string applause (this was about 20 yr ago). I loved
that guitar -- it sounded great. The round back is serious problem, though,
for any position other than standing up. I'm surprised that ovation doesn't
make some kind of outrigger attachment to stop slippage -- there
are plenty of stranger attachments made for square side guitars...
