overnight neck tension

i've run out of strings (bought a pack of 4 off the bay like 20 days ago, not here yet...) and my high E just snapped so i've taken all the strings off and done a major setup and clean of my rg2550z. getting a new pack of strings tomorrow.

i can see the neck has visibly bent upwards without the tension of the strings on it, should i loosen it a bit overnight? i use .10s.

Re: overnight neck tension

I wouldn't do it - my logic says that if the neck was fine while it had strings on it, it will move back to the same position when the tension is re-applied (or at least very close to it).

Re: overnight neck tension

It's not going to get damaged just because it's missing a string overnight. People have had guitars in closets with no strings for years and the neck has been fine.

I had a neck I bought for a project sit around for months, and it's been on finished product for a few years now absolutely fine.

If you keep using the same gauge strings it should be fine. If it was strung with 10's and you restrung it with 9's the lesser tension of the 9's might cause the neck to bow a bit.

Easily fixed with a truss rod adjuster.
