parts build

Hi, just wondering how easy this it to do, ive never done this before, is it hard to get it all setup correctly and playing nicely by myself? Does it work out cheaper than buying a whole guitar ready assembled? Any info appreciated,

thanks

Re: parts build

Depends.

If you're getting, say, an Ibanez neck, an Ibanez body, Ibanez parts, etc..., it can work fine.

You can run into difficulties with frankenstein's and other various different manufacturers parts.

Re: parts build

You shouldn't have a problem and yes, some parts will be expensive.

Re: parts build

no, buying a guitar off the shelf is cheaper...
and depending on what you buy you can have problems....

give it a go - if all else fails give it to a tech who can set it up for you once youve put it together !

Re: parts build

Right. Building from parts will cost you more every time. Don't do it to save money. Do it for the experience, or to end up with something custom that you can't get elsewhere.

Re: parts build

i always save money building my guitars

<img src=http://i26.photobucket.com/albums/c143/confederatewk/downneck.jpg>

warmoth throughout
jackson pro style neck with angled headstock reverse headstock, 16 inch flat radius neck stainless steel frets, ebony fretboard on maple neck, corian nut

alder v2 body h x h contoured heel
volume coil tapping, selector, tone

hardware is
locking tuners
dimarzio x2n bridge
duncan distortion neck
1 meg push pull coil tap volume
selector wired normal - double pole center venter selection makes parallel wiring on both pickups, each other way is normal
500k tone with .022 cap
all shielded wiring and cavaties

and a kahler fixed bridge 3300 fine tuner with stainless steel saddles - 3310
all this was about 1200 in parts

add a bottle of tunoil MINWAX
and some solder and black paint on the headstock

let me tell u something, blows away just about any ibanez, but word on the ibanezez...and still building ur guitar right off the shelf with ordered parts, is the way to go, then you dont need to rely on a model built of customization that can limit you....etc....

shred it foo

Re: parts build

I am currently building an Ibanez guitar using custom jem parts. If you price hunt, you will get it for cheaper. If you buy new ibanez parts, you will not benefit other than the experience of building.

Re: parts build

Usually buying a used WHOLE guitar with parts and modifying the heck out of it is far cheaper than buying things piece by piece.

Find a used RG that is as close as you can get to what you want and modify and re-finish to suit you.

Let us know how it goes for you when you get closer to finishing the project.

Re: parts build

yeah, screamn brings up a good point. If you want a guitar that is nothing like a stock model, thats when you need to order custom parts piece by piece
