peanut butter = scratch remover?

I read that you can use peanut butter (not the chunky kind) to remove scratches on cd's. Think it would work to remove finish scratches on a guitar? Or would it just scratch it more?

anybody ever try it?

Re: peanut butter = scratch remover?

Sounds like a real mess. For fine scratches, just buy some liquid automotive buffing compounds. Meguiars is a good brand and easy to find, but I'm more familiar with the 3M compounds. Start with a medium cut and work your way through progressively finer cuts until you get to swirl remover. Follow the directions on the bottle, and use a soft rag or one of those soft blue paper towels to apply the compound. Once you're done, you can wax if you want, and your guitar will shine like new.

I have used toothpaste to remove scratches on PlayStation games. Works well sometimes. Anything that's a light abrasive will do the same thing.

^ Yep, toothpaste is good, have used it to clear up scratches on the crystal glass of watches as well, works wonders.

or CHUNKY!! Anyway, make sure you use a nice polishing cloth as too coarse a material can make the scratches even if the peanut butter or toothpaste doesn't.

Yeah, toothpaste can definitely scratch. Be careful with it on CD's. If you go crazy with it you'll notice the area becoming dull (hundreds of tiny scratches!). Only work on the actual scratch if possible, rather than the surrounding area.

Tooth Polish is even better - superb as a final buffing compound on frets (NO, I'M NOT HAVING YOU ON HERE!!!), and leaves your fingerboard with a fresh, minty scent........

.... found this one out by accident after doing a refret on a Maple Strat - couldn't find any fine buffing compound ..... great looking frets - the owner kept looking at his guitar quizzically, trying to work out if that was where the minty breath aroma was coming from .....

I prefer to use Gatorade. That way, not only will my guitar have electrolytes, but it will have cool glowing sweat (that can fuel sweet rave parties)
