Pickguard maintenance - ... what's your solution

I would like to know what you guys do to keep your pickguard looking good (besides replacing it). We all know that pickguards take a lot of beating and start to look all scratchy and stuff real quick even for well taken care of guitars.

Of course this is worse for the mirrored pickguards... so, I was wondering what you guys do to keep it nice.

There are several polish's on the market for plastic's and acrylic's....

If you have a local pet store that deals in Acrylic aquariums they usually have a product that removes scratches as well as polishing to a fine luster.......

Pickguard maintenance

My favorite is Meguiar's mirror glaze #10 plastic polish. It is the best I've used and because it is so mild you can use it by hand, without a buffer. I think stew mac has it. The other think to think about is that pickguard wear and tear is progressive. Have you ever seen a black pickguard with a white "smear" where someone wore down to the next layer? Polishing the pickguard also removes a microscopic amount, so the more you polish, the shorter the life of the guard. By the way, I've used the meguiars on CD's with great success. It is especially for clear plastics.

Pickguard maintenance

Eyeglass cleaner and CLOTH towels from Lenscrafters. *Formulated for use on plastic eyeglass lenses. *Paper towels or anything with paper will scratch the lenses, hence the cloth towels, therefore it is pretty safe on the pickguard/guitar finish. *I get 4 to 10 uses out of each towel @ $0.10 per towel.

ashlock... I don't mean to be picky but if you read the first post, what I am looking for is to repair already scratched pickguards.

You could always bolt a pickguard onto your pickguard.

Sorry to be even pickier, but you were asking about maintanence, not repair Find a place familiar with acrylic and plastic polishing and have it polished.

Rich.. true... but I did mention that I wanted to keep the pickguard "nice" after getting it beat up and scratchy.

I guess that we are all just as picky. I'll just be more specific that I wanted to find out how to "repair" it. *

But I think that all the posts that I got here really helped... thanks guys!!!

Unless you're going to sell it, why bother? *If it's getting scratched up thats the whole point, isn't it?
