Pickguard Replacing

Hey, i just received my new pickguard for my RG 350dx and this would be my first time replacing the pickguard and i don't want to mess up my guitar at all so i was wondering if anyone has any guides for the easiest way to put my new pickguard on.

Thx

Re: Pickguard Replacing

the easiest way is to block the trem, i just used some folded over card board, once youve done that remove the strings, then just screw and replace it. pretty straight forward. post some pics when its finished :-)

Re: Pickguard Replacing

Before anything, make 100% sure that all screwholes line up between old and new pickguards. Otherwise you'll be really really pissed.

De-solder the ground wire that's connected to the trem, pull it out carefully.

Disconnect and de-solder (neater) the guitar jack. Pull out carefully.

keep track of knobs and screws when detaching pickups and pots from the old pickguard.

connect them one by one to the new pickguard, making sure that wires that didn't touch before still don't touch each other. Also the other way around, that nothing that shouldn't touch is touching something else.

Re: Pickguard Replacing

This really sucks.... it looks so good on the guitar but 8 out of the 18 screws don't line up ;[[[[[[

that was a big waste of 40 bucks

Re: Pickguard Replacing

There are only 10 screws, but aftermarket guard screwholes never line up. Drill new holes.

Re: Pickguard Replacing

no i mean there are really off it says precision made for Ibanez RG but obliviously not the 350

well if your not counting the pickup screws and stuff then 2 1/2 are lined up out of 10

Re: Pickguard Replacing

The drill doesn't care how far off. It's probably cut for a MIJ placement, as long as it fits and there are no OTHER issues, see above.

Re: Pickguard Replacing

If the new holes would be hidden under the original pickguard anyway, then it won't matter. Like I said before, just make sure there aren't any OTHER issues first.

Re: Pickguard Replacing

Yes post pics, good stuff. Once you get past that fear of drilling or sanding, routing, etc on your guitar you can do almost anything!
