Pickup cleaning? - how do I get rust off the six pole pieces

I was wondering if anyone has something they recommend for cleaning rust off the six individual pole pieces? Thanks!

Hopy's gun cleaning solvent. Available at your local Miejer, WallMart or K-Mart.

And a toothbrush.

I only had one guitar that the poles rusted on, I just polished them with some 800 grit paper and then I put a layer of clear nailpolish on the poles. *I put the nailpolish on all my guitars pole pieces now and no more rusting. *The nail polish goes on really thin and doesn't seem to affect tone at all and you can't even notice it in there.
