Pickup Switching - Jem 777DY

Quick question as I'm one of you guys knows.

I was looking for confirmation of the pickup switching on JEM's - and whether it is pretty much standard. From playing I would take a guess at it being (Neck:SC; Neck Hum; Middle; Bridge Hum; Bridge SC).

Just wondering as one of my old guitars (you don't need to know what it is) has 5 way and a coil tap which makes the variety huge - any ideas on if this would be possible with a Jem?

The switching on a JEM is:

Position #1: Neck Humbucker
Position #2: Neck Inner coil + Middle
Position #3: Middle
Position #4: Bridge Inner coil + Middle
Position #5: Bridge Humbucker

A coil tap switch is always a possibility, but why? You get an amazing array of choices to start with.

Mods like this are absolutely...Ice Cream

Go on! You know you want to put a coil tap switch in! Lots and lots of little flavours to play around with, which is far too cool!

I might just get that coil tap you know....

Only reason I thought of it was when i dug out my old guitar the variation of sound is great out of decidedly dodgy pickups.....

but where to get it done.....is the techy ability lurking round here somewhere?

Pickup Switching

It's actually quite easy, Go down to denmark street and by a push pull pot (rocka's should have them, you can most probably find out from the tech section what ohm rating the pot should be). Then all you do is wire the single coil output to one input, the humbucker to the other input pin and then wire the output to where you'd normally wire the humbucker to on the selection switch. Or just rewire the selector switch according to the pickup config you want.

The best way to do this is to draw it out first. Give me a yell by mail if you need any help,

James
