pickup wiring question

I was thinking about this the other day:

Is it possible to wire an HH guitar using a 3 way toggle where the middle position would be one coil of each (kinda like positions 2 and 4 on HSH RG models)? I realize that the pickups would have to have 4 conductor wiring to begin with, but was curious.

Re: pickup wiring question

yes, you wire it using a push pull pot and have coil tap wiring for ease..this way, pull it out and you get the inner coils? or any - just depends how you wire it..even outer coils...doesnt matter

Re: pickup wiring question

You might want to get the megaswitch "P" model. That's a 5-way that I think covers what you're looking for, and adds others.

Re: pickup wiring question

It's completely possible to wire up a standard 3-way CRL switch so that in the middle position you only get the two inner coils.

Re: pickup wiring question

Of course.... that actually answered the original question. Sorry.

Budd, do you know if a stock 5 way of a 570 can be wired similarly for a HHH setup, or am I better off trying a superswitch? I emailed Dimarzio, but no response so far.

Re: pickup wiring question

Back to the original question, yes with the correct switch. My RG620 has a 3 way toggle that does exactly this and was the basis for the Petrucci wiring. You need the correct switch(from an Ibanez dealer) and 4 wire pickups(or at least 2 wire with a coil tap like the Ibanez V7.V8 pickups.

Re: pickup wiring question

Thanks for your help! I just realized I should have started this in the forum just below (pickups and wiring). So albee, if I get the toggle that is used on the JP models, I should be good (with the correct wiring of course)?

Re: pickup wiring question

That should work. Check the Ibanez website under Support/wiring and look for either the RG620 or the Petrucci models.

Re: pickup wiring question

Found the wiring diagram as mentioned above, but since it's a discontinued model and I'm not replacing an original, starting to sound like getting the actual Ibby toggle may be pretty difficult. Any suggestions as to where I could get a similar toggle (or 3 way slider for that matter) that would do the trick?
