Pinch Harmonics on the G string
I recently got a JEM7VWH and I've discovered that some
pinch harmonics
on the third string, are hard to get and fade out quickly. When I get a pinch harmonic on the 9th or 14th fret of the G string and use vibrato, the harmonic fades away. Is this just how EVOs are?, because I have EMG-HZ pickups in my Jackson and pinch harmonics are extremely easy to get and don't fade away quickly. Why are pinch harmonics crappy only on the third string? Could it be something like a
truss rod adjustment
? Does anyone else have this problem?

Re: Pinch Harmonics on the G string
The fretted note on the 12th fret is a little bit flat, but will that even have that much of an effect?

Re: Pinch Harmonics on the G string
Complete bull-Sh!t...
I can make any guitar scream, even a shaved-string jazz ES-type if necessary.
The sounds do not resort in the tools (guitars, amps, etc), but in the player.
If you have troubles getting outrageous shrieks from your 3th (G), revise your playing. Beat-up strings, of course, take a lot of dynamics away, but they ain't *key* for generating overtones. It's you who generates those tones, not the guitar.
So, within the auricular boundaries of specific pups, strings and all that, I dare to say that I can make *any* guitar scream. Even my classical if necessary. And if you give me tone, even more...
Best Regards,
D.

Re: Pinch Harmonics on the G string
AH!!!
I DO want to add, that with beat-up guitars, the setup in relation to fretboard wair is not futile. Indeed, on some of my guitars it became hard to make it scream on some positions. But when I put the action at 2-3mm or more, that flaw disappeared inmediately. And this proves, that, inspite of this, the craft is still with the player. If this is the case on your guitar, you need a re-fretting.
My advise: Turn up the action bigtime, like 2-3 mm at the 12th fret. Then try to make it scream. If it screams, it's your frets obviously. If it doesn't, let a trusted shredder have a try at it, to make sure the issue is physical...
But, I remain faithful to what I said earlier, I can make anything with six strings scream without doubt. It's a matter of technique, not of tools of the trade. One can only make what one plays more comfortable, but in the end guitarplaying, and especially shredding, remains a Craft through hard work.
Regards,
D.
