Possibly damaged neck?

I can hear some a strange rattling sound which appears to be coming from the truss rod, more like strange vibrations. I havn't checked out the truss rod, but I'm no expert so I don't know what the problem could be. It comes when I play some of the open strings and the majority of frets before the 12th. Any ideas as to what the problem is?

Any help much appreciated.

Thanks.

Re: Possibly damaged neck?

maybe your truss rod is just loose and vibrating inside the neck.

Try tightening it (if it is loose when you try)

How can you tell if it's loose?

The curvature of the neck looks fine, but then it always does to me.

Re: Possibly damaged neck?

I've seen this before in a USA Deluxe Strat. Right from the factory!! Oops little slip in QC.. Hehe

We noticed it when we tapped on the neck, you could clearly hear something moving around. And of course there aren't many things in a guitar neck. We tryed to tighten the rod and it didnt do anything. The neck was defective and sent back. With the whole guitar of course.

Bring it to a tech and get another opinion. Trying to tighten it is worth trying of course, but be prepared. Hopefully it's still under warranty, if you bought it new, and you don't get stuck with a bum neck. Even then depending what the guitar is worth you could have a new rod installed. They'd have to remove the freboard and what not.

Good Luck!

Re: Possibly damaged neck?

If the truss rod is loose or broken the first couple of frets should be buzzing and the reilef for the lower frets on the neck should be excessive.

Little fighter, that is entirely the wrong way round.

Adagio 777, best to take it to a tech, but if you are ever in/near North London I'll take a look for you.
