I'm not 100% clear on whther you're just dropping your E down to D or tuning the whole guitar down...

One drawback of a floating trem is that it's gotta be setup for one tuning. The tension of the strings is balanced out by the tension of the springs - if you offset either side, the whole thing is affected.

If you'r dropping all 6 strings, set it up tuned to D G C F A D and leave it there and that'll be your tuned down guitar.

If you're just talking about dropping the one string, use your LP Fixed bridge on those songs.

There's a lot of talk on this forum about the "Tremol-no" that just came out from All Parts (invented by a former Jemsite-forum regular). Go to www.tremolno.com to see how it can solve your problem. Good luck.

Yeah maybe go with the heavier strings. Try 10's!
