Problems with RG350DX

I just got this guitar and it's had problems from the moment i've had it.

First off, the first fret makes this buzzy half ass note type noise when I play it.

Second off, the tremolo arm won't stay put. I can't even tighten it or anything because it's just a slip in.

Is there any way I can make the arm tighter and the first fret not buzz?

Re: Problems with RG350DX

put a shim under the nut for the fret buzz & the trem arem could be one of two things...

1. take off teh rear trem cover and tighten the 10mm nut you can see holding the trem arm in - you'll need a deep reach socket..
2. the little plastic things on the trem arm need replacing - they are bloody expensive for what they are so I just wrap a small amount of cling film (clear plastic food wrap) around the arm and re-insert it..

Re: Problems with RG350DX

For the edge III on the 350, there is no plastic spacers on the bar. Instead to tighten it, put the bar in the trem and do a dive bomb with it. Hold the bar flush with the body of the guitar so that the input side of the trem is in the air. On the side of the trem where the arm is inserted, on the back, there is a tiny TINY hole. This hole fits a tiny hex wrench which tightens the things that grip the bar - turn clockwise to tighten it and a few turns go a long way. Its only held in by friction (poor design) so you'll need to retighten this every now and then.

The way the bar is held is my main gripe with the edge III - its really not a bad trem when set up right.

Your truss rod might be too tight and that could cause the 1st fret buzzing. I've seen it happen before. so look down the side of the neck and see if the neck is straight or a slight relief.
Ibanez usually shims the nut at the factory and it is plenty high enough, but maybe someone removed the shim and tightened the trussrod for less bow, or they used heavier strings.

Re: Problems with RG350DX

could be truss rod adjustment. Could also be a bum fret. If you are fretting the first fret, and it's crapping out, take a look at the second. It MAY be lifted, killing the first-fret notes. Is this a new guitar, or used? If it's new, it may not be the fret. I HAVE seen crappy fretwork from the factory, before, though, so....

Its one of the biggest problems with the MIK rg's. They just NEED an extensive set up before they can even compete

Re: Problems with RG350DX

Well the thing is is that it only buzzes on the first 3 or 4 strings, the low e and a are fine. It's a BRAND new guitar too. Thanks for your help so far guys you're the best! I'm gonna go get it set up professionally next weekend so I hope I can get the fretbuzz sorted out.

As far as the edge III goes, it's a great trem, it functions superbly. But whoever the hell decided to design the arm that way needs to be fired

Re: Problems with RG350DX

Yeah, that's my only gripe with it. It feels like you may lose the trem bar, but so date, I have not seen any signs of that. Mine stays in tune, wonderfully.
